A Postcode Road-Distance Matrix is valuable for including in a database or a website for computing the time taken for trips or journeys by road, within a specified region. It can be used to provide quotes for taxi journeys, calculate delivery estimates or help work out the most efficient journey plan.

  • Postcode Areas (LS) contains over 7,300 records
  • Postcode Districts (LS2) contains over 4.2 million records.
  • Postcode Secotrs (LS2 9) contains over 42 million records.
  • Also avalible by region (only in 'raw' format):
    • Birmingham (all postcode sectors in the B postcode area) - 25,000 entries.
    • Liverpool (all postcode sectors in the L postcode area) - 77,000 entries.
    • London (includes sectors from BR, CR, DA, E, EC, EN, HA, IG, KT, N, NW, RM, SE, SM, SW, TW, UB, W, WC and WD) - 668,000 entries.
    • Manchester (all postcode sectors in the M postcode area) - 15,700 entries.
    • South-East (includes all sectors from 'London', and from AL, BN, CT, GU, HP, LU, ME, MK, OX, PO, RG, RH, SL, SO and TN) - 3,000,000 entries.


• Technical Information
  • Postcode Matrices are available as an ASCII Text Comma Separated Value (CSV) file in their raw format.
  • The optimised binary file requires the (GMatrix) lookup toolkit which runs in Windows or Linux as is designed in C++ for optimum speed./li>
  • Due to the size of the matrix files, you may be unable to open them in standard applications (Microsoft Excel etc.) and be required to create a lookup utility.
